Powerful Catalytic Carbon and KDF85 Media
Contains advanced KDF85 redox media and powerful steam-activated catalytic carbon with an Iodine rating of >1000mg/g and is suitable for rapid dechlorination, dechloramination, filtration of 1000s of other chemicals and heavy metals like lead, mercury and copper from potable city water. Its large micropore volume makes it particularly well suited for the removal of low molecular weight organic compounds and their chlorinated by-products such as chloroform and other trihalomethanes (THMs).
Competitor's filters don't contain KDF media to address soluble heavy metals and use standard carbon or carbon block with iodine ratings of only 700mg/g that won't remove chloramines and will plug up rapidly leaving you with weak water pressure or frequent service costs.

It depends on your water supply. If you are on a municipal city water supply, then the typical contaminants of concern are chlorine (or chloramines) and chemicals, sediment, and hardness minerals. The types of contaminants typically found in a private well water supply are sediment, iron, and hardness minerals, but can vary from nuisance contaminants to toxic or damaging.
With its KDF85/catalytic carbon filter, the HMF2SMGCC is great for city water with chloramines or chlorine. (Contact your water provider to learn if your city uses chloramines.) For city water without chloramines, use model HMF2SDGC (which treats chlorine, but not chloramines).

What flow rate should I look for?
